lEAVING A Legacy

What's a legacy?

A legacy is a gift left in your Will, sometimes referred to as a bequest. It’s a simple way of giving that costs you nothing in your lifetime – but these amazing gifts make a lasting difference for vulnerable children.

Leaving a gift in your Will is a special and personal decision, request a free legacy booklet to

Together, we can leave a safer world for children

Even a small gift left in a Will can protect vulnerable children, save kids in emergencies and
build a brighter, safer world for the next generation.

Your gift can protect children

A gift in your Will can ensure even the hardest to reach children have safe spaces, food, medicine and clean water.

your gift can save children in emergencies

When disasters strike, children can't wait for support. A gift in your Will can ensure that children get the help they need, when they need it most.

"UNICEF's size and experience means it can get to disaster areas very quickly and distribute aid straight away. I like to think that in a small way my contribution will help after I'm gone."

Roger Hall, Playwright
& UNICEF New Zealand Ambassador

"I never had the joy and responsibility of raising children, but I was very aware that so many children exist in what are hopeless situations. Through the work of UNICEF, I will still be involved with the care of children in need long after I have passed on."

helen grofski, retired nurse

"There are many children in need around the world who UNICEF is helping. Many now have hope for a better life. So I have included UNICEF in my Will and it makes me happy to know my support will be helping children long after I have gone.”

david Ellison (DECEASED), teacher

“On a trip to Africa, we were able to see first-hand how successful UNICEF's programmes can be. It’s been calculated that every dollar spent on water and sanitation projects yields as much as $35 in positive value for children. We were genuinely moved by our experiences of UNICEF's work”

Types of legacy gifts

You do not have to be wealthy to leave a legacy. Whatever the size of your gift, in our hands it will go a long way.

Reversionay Gift

A reversionary gift allows you to leave your estate to your dependents while they are living, but after they pass away it will revert to UNICEF.

Pecuniary Gift

A pecuniary gift allows you to leave a specific amount of money to UNICEF. Whatever the amount, it is always gratefully received.

Residuary Gift

A residuary gift allows you to leave UNICEF a share of your estate once your family has been taken care of. 85% of our legacy income comes from gifts made in this way.
